Eyelid surgery recovery

In most cases, the recovery from a eyelid lift procedure is rather quick. Usually, there is no need for eye patches or large bandages — a little ointment applied to the area will go a long way in promoting healing and preventing scarring. To reduce swelling and bruising, your surgeon may recommend that you apply an ice pack to the area for a few minutes a day during the immediate recovery period.

Any sutures will be removed after the first week. You may or may not have to take time off work as part of your recovery, depending on how much is done.

Eyelid surgery procedure steps

During an eyelid surgery through our San Antonio office, we will begin by placing the patient under anesthesia. This can involve local anesthesia for simple procedures or general anesthesia for more complicated ones. From there, small incisions are made in the natural folds of the eyes and surgical tools are used to remove excess fat and skin, especially from droopy eyelids. Once complete, sutures are used to close the incisions that will generally be removed in a week.

As with any eye plastic surgery, there is always the risk of certain side effects. These may include:

• bleeding
• scarring
• infection
• double vision
