What results can you expect with a Face Lift?

Immediately following your face lift skin surgery in Dermatology Associates of San Antonio, you will need to go through a recovery phase; during this time, you will likely need to wear bandages and gauze around a large area of the face to protect from infection and encourage healing. In most cases, patients can begin to see the results of their facelifts after a few weeks. As swelling subsides, you’ll gradually see the results become more obvious. If you take a look at some pictures of people before and after their facelifts, you’ll likely notice the people in the “after” photos have higher, fuller-looking cheeks and less sagging skin around the face and neckline, giving them a more youthful look.

What potential risks are involved?

When you have a face lift or any other cosmetic procedure in San Antonio as anywhere else, there are always potential risks involved. Some specific risks and side effects of face lift surgery of which you should be aware include:

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Scarring
  • Nerve injury
  • How long does recovery take?

Following a facelift in San Antonio, most patients find that they need to take about two weeks off of work or school to make a nearly full recovery and appear presentable once again. Immediately following the surgery, most patients are able to return home the same day. During a follow-up appointment the next week, the dressing and sutures may also be removed. The remainder of the recovery period, for most patients, is spent recovering from swelling and bruising.

What happens during a facelift?

There are different kinds of facelifts. For the typical facelift procedure, which is common in many offices that perform cosmetic surgery in San Antonio, the procedure begins with placing the patient under general anesthesia. From there, small incisions are made along the hairline, and fatty tissue layers are then repositioned and lifted as needed. When the desired results are achieved, the incisions are closed with sutures and then bandaged.
