What is hyperhidrosis?

Also known as excessive sweating, this condition is a common disorder affecting many people. The most common form is palmar hyperhydrosis or sweaty palms. It is thought that this hyperhidrosis is a result of over activity of the sympathetic nervous system.

What are the symptoms of hyperhidrosis?

Excessive sweating that is uncontrollable that may be seen in the feet, underarm, face and palms.

What are the consequences of hyperhidrosis?

In a normal person, sweating is needed for thermal regulation; however in a person suffering from this condition, sweating exceeds the body’s need for physiological thermal regulation. This may result in dehydration, cold and clammy hands, and skin infections. This condition can also result in negative emotional effects causing people with this condition to modify their lifestyle to accommodate this problem.
