What Results Can You Expect in a Nose Job Surgery?

When having nose job, such as a rhinoplasty, you will generally begin to see your results about a week after the procedure is performed. With any nose reduction surgery, there is going to be some swelling and inflammation following the procedure itself, so full results will not be visible right away. As swelling goes down and splints are removed from the nose, the new shape of the nose will gradually become noticeable and full results can be expected to be seen within a few weeks.

How Long Does Recovery Take?

With any nose plastic surgery, there is going to be a recovery time, during which patients need to wear a nasal splint and will experience swelling. This period usually lasts for around 7-10 days. Once the splint is removed by the surgeon, there could be some swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes that lasts for a couple of weeks. Most patients are able to return to their regular level of physical activity within a month.

What Are the Potential Risks?

Like any surgical procedure performed anywhere, a nose job in our San Antonio practice will come with some inherent risks. Some of the most common side effects associated with getting a nose job include:

  • infection
  • excessive bleeding
  • reaction to anesthesia
  • need for revision

What Happens During a Nose Job Procedure?

In general, a rhinoplasty procedure will take around two to three hours to complete. Patients are placed under general anesthesia for the duration of the surgery. The surgeon will decide whether to make incisions across the bottom of the nose or in the lining of the nostrils themselves. From there, the surgeon can reshape the nose by removing cartilage or even rearranging it. Upon completion, the incisions are sutured closed and gauze is used to stop the bleeding.
